A Whole New Galaxy

It’s not like person didn’t know it was coming, but nothing could prepare you for the new flagship phones from Samsung. Samsung unveiled not one but two flagship devices with a radical change in design and specification. Let’s dig a bit deeper to find out what has been improved since the Galaxy S5.
What’s new?
The truth is, Samsung went all out to please the masses this time around when it comes to design, but in doing so some persons might not be so happy towards the changes which are as follows:

  • Non removable battery
  • No Micro SD Card support
  • Full Metal Construction
  • Gorilla Glass 4 covers the front and back of the device

After the announcement of the S6 and S6 Edge I got the chance to speak with Kenneth Moore, Key Account Manager of Samsung Caribbean in the hopes to get some answers about the new Samsung Flagship phone. So here are 6 things you should know about the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

  1. Apart from an upgrade in RAM size to 3GB, better optics for the camera, and Non swipe finger print reader; the new premium design of the S6 with its metal construction glass covered back and front is what set it apart from previous iteration of the Galaxy S line.
  2. The Reason behind the drastic design change for the S6 line is based on market research and what most consumers wanted the new flagship to look and feel like.
  3. Due to Unibody design and slim built of the S6 it was impossible to make the device with a removable battery and keep it looking sleek and slim.
  4. The lack of Mirco SD card support in the S6 was slightly due to design constraint, but it was greatly influenced due to the fact that most consumers tend to use cloud storage these day. So to help alleviate the lack of Micro SD support Samsung has now made their base unit for the S6 a 32GB unit with a 64GB and 128GB option for those persons who need more space. Also the S6 comes preloaded with Microsoft OneDrive with 115GB of cloud storage.
  5. Most maybe wondering how durable a glass and metal phone might be. Well we have been assured that no matter its construction Samsung has done its extensive testing and the S6 should be just as durable as their previous flagship phones.
  6. The launch date for the S6 will be April 10 globally, and Jamaica will be seeing it around a week after the globally launch. Also for the first time ever Jamaica will have both variants of the S6 for purchase.

Final Thoughts
The launch date for us over here is somewhere around April 17 for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, until then we will have to sit and count the days until then. I can’t wait to get my hands on a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge! Just twenty four days left until April 17… yes I’m keeping check!

Huawei Ascend P7 Review

Posted by Payton Wilmott On Thursday, March 12, 2015 0 comments

So, Huawei has a flagship phone called the Ascend P7, which most readers like I would think that because it’s Huawei then it would be a budget phone with mid range specification. You will be shocked with the truth today.

The 7 Ascending Feature

Today we will be taking a closer look at the Huawei Ascend P7 (P7) and 7 features that make this phone such an eye candy.

Ascend One: 8MP Front Camera
I have never, and I repeat, never seen a phone takes such amazing photos with the front camera. After testing it in office I took to the streets and the reaction was the same every time. Persons were shocked to see the image quality after each shot. Just look at the selfie pictures of Shernette Evans took of herself as a demonstration.  This phone score big with the ladies... Trust me on that one.

Ascend Two: 13MP Rear Camera
The back camera for the P7 is also astounding. It takes equally great photos like the front camera but is also able to do it at night and low light conditions as well.  The rear camera also has the ability to video record at 1080p as well.

Ascend Three: Robust Setting
Huawei seem to put a lot of time and effort into the settings menu of this device. You’ll find features in the settings menu that you would only find in paid apps. One such feature is in power saving mode that tells you the apps running in the background and how much ampere they are using.

Ascend Four: Photo Editing Options
After taking gorgeous photos with the P7 you will have the ability to edit them with some creative tools. Some of the editing tools include lighten your skin complexion, smooth your skin, and whiten your teeth with amazing precision.

Ascend Five: Mirror App
At the lock screen you will find four shortcut apps by swiping up. One such app is Mirror which allows you to use the front camera as a mirror. In the application you can also zoom in on your face for better detail. This will certainly be a hit with the ladies.

Ascend Six: Magnifying Glass
Yes, the P7 has an application that acts as a magnifying glass. The app uses the rear camera to magnify images and also has the option to turn on the flash to see in dark areas. Now that I look at it… this sounds kind of creepy.

Ascend Seven: Build Quality
The Huawei Ascend P7 is a well built phone with Gorilla glass at the back and the front, a metal frame, HiSilicon Kirin 910T Quad-core 1.8 GHz processor, 1080 x 1920 pixels 5.0 inches display, Internal Storage 16 GB, 2 GB RAM, and FM radio. There is not much more you can ask for in a phone.

 Final Thoughts
There are a lot of good points going for the Huawei Asecend P7 like the price, but we found a couple of things that didn’t rub us the right way too. One of which is that all the slots and buttons are located on the right hand side of the device. Also the close proximity of the power and volume buttons will make you mistakenly press one for the other most of the times. If that’s what it takes to have beautiful selfies then sign me up!
