I just post my review of the Samsung Gear 2 moments ago… I do believe this is the best time to give away the Samsung Gear Fit I have been talking about all this time. First off… rules which is pretty simple.

  1. You must reside in Jamaica to be qualified to receive the prize.
  2. You must be willing and able to pick up your prize within two weeks after the announcement that you are the winner. Otherwise this prize will be given away to the second person who is qualified.
  3. You must have a working email address for the arrangement of your prize pick up.

OK, on to the fun stuff… The questions that will earn you the Samsung Gear Fit is…

  1. What is the name of the winning team for the 2014 Samsung Cup?
  2. Who was named Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Samsung Cup finals and what team did he played for?

The first person to email the correct answers to Technicational@Gmail.com will get the Samsung Gear Fit.

Good luck folks….. Keep fit!!!

Samsung Gear 2 Review

For two weeks I had the pleasure of wearing a Samsung Gear 2 to see if smart watches are a necessity now or a fad. Two weeks of traveling from home to work and back again just to see how it would impact a simple man like me on a daily basis. So what have I learned within two weeks?

Specifications
First thing I learned was what was in the device I was wearing. I wanted to see what made this watch tick.
  • 1.63-inch Super AMOLED (320 x 320)
  • 1 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • Operating System: Tizen
  • Megapixel Auto Focus (1920x1080, 1080x1080, 1280x960)
  • Remote Controller via IrLED Sensor
  • IP67 Certified Dust and Water Resistant
  • Bluetooth® v4.0
  • Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate Monitor
  • 512MB RAM
  • Storage 4GB

What Do You Get In The Box?
Well I have a video to cover this topic... Just watch and enjoy.

How Do I Get This Thing Working?
Getting the Gear 2 up and working is simple enough for any android user to do. The process is exactly the same as getting the Gear Fit setup with one manner difference of downloading the Gear Manager application instead of the Gear Fit Manger application from the Samsung App Store and installing it.

What Can It Do?
I have listed below 4 major features that I found very useful and practical for everyday use with the Gear 2 in this tropical country.

The Camera: Gone or the days when you have to take out a camera or a Smartphone to capture a quick moment. This device takes excellent videos and decent photos in well lit areas. The second day of wearing this device I caught a small spectacle on the bus and was able to share the event with my friends at the office. The persons in the video were not aware of the fact that they were being video and that is good when you are on public transport in the middle of downtown.

Watch On Remote: It’s so annoying when you sit down to watch something and can find the remote to change the channel or turn up the volume. The Watch On feature of the Gear 2 really helped me keep my cool at home these few days. I could change the channel, control the volume and much more for this watch that was always on my wrist.

Music Player: The watch comes with a standalone music player that works with Bluetooth headsets or it plays sound through the built-in speaker that’s located on the watch. This came in handy every time my phone died and I wanted to my inspirational music going when I was knee deep in work. My advice is to listen to the music with a Bluetooth headset because the loud speaker isn’t that great for music.

Phone Dialer: The Gear 2 can make and receive calls as long as it’s paired with your Samsung Smartphone. No more digging in your pockets to place a quick call to your significant other anymore. The call starts on louder speaker, but you can switch over the call to the handset when it gets too personal with the touch of an icon.

Final Thoughts
The question still remains if the Samsung Gear 2 is a necessity for everyday use, and the answer is up to you, but for me… I can’t seem to stop using it. I have been using the Gear 2 so heavily that my Smartphone is jealous, but as I have this smart watch and music I will survive. If you need hands on with the Gear 2 you can check it out at your nearest Samsung Experience Store.

The Fifth Time Around

It’s been more than a month since the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, but most persons are still on the fence about moving from the current android Smartphone they own to this new flag ship Smartphone from Samsung. What does the Galaxy S5 has that you can’t find on other android Smartphone out on the market? Is this phone a true upgrade to the Galaxy S4? Given the fact that I wanted to be very in depth with my review of this product; I have included a unboxing video from my YouTube channel down below. Sometimes words just aren’t enough.

Yup… all editing and intro editing were done on my old and faithful DELL laptop. I’ll be doing some more videos and video editing on my YouTube channel so feel free to browse.

What are the internal components?

It’s no surprise that owning a Galaxy S device means owning a device that has top notch components. This year the Galaxy S5 came out the starting blocks swinging with…

  • Fingerprint sensor (PayPal certified)
  • IP67 certified - dust and water resistant (Water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes)
  • Micro USB v3.0 (MHL 2.1), USB On-the-go, USB Host
  • Camera: Primary 16 MP, 5312 x 2988 pixels, phase detection autofocus, LED flash
  • Video: 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, HDR, video stabilization, dual-video rec.
  • Android OS v4.4.2 (KitKat)
  • Exynos 5 Octa 5422 CPU: Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7
  • Heart Rate Monitor

If the war of Smartphone’s were fought with specification then the Galaxy S5 would have a chain gun that shoot rockets with laser sights.

What’s Different this time around?

Samsung seems to keep building on the already daunting feature list that they have for their Smartphones. So to make things a little bit easier to explain I’ll point out some features that weren’t in the Galaxy S4.

  1. The IP67 certification which means the device is now water resistant and dust resistant is new to the Galaxy S line. To be honest… I’ll have to take Samsung word for this one, because I wasn’t about to dunk a $100,000.00 review phone in water to test this feature. Nope, no sir… I have kids to feed.
  2. Finger Print Scanner is also new this time around and actually works perfectly. Don’t know what the complaining was about on the internet. The only problem had is that it requires your two hands to unlock the phone with your finger print which is awkward when on the road trying to check your phone for notification. Thus, I returned to the good old number lock system.
  3. Ultra Power Save Mode is… is… a great idea! But not practical for everyday use given the fact that when you are in this mode you’ll only have access to 6 six specified application. Three 3 of which you get to choose when setting up the mode. Also, the phone only displays black and white in this mode. As I said before, it’s great when you are in a pickle and need your phone to stay on, but that’s where the buck stops.
  4. 16 megapixel camera with select focus is the most talked about feature for this phone, and after a week with the device I must confess that the camera on this phone is superb! Pictures are extremely detailed no matter the conditions they are taken under. Also, the select focus feature highlights the subject in the picture and blurs out everything else in the photo and gives the overall photo a level of enhanced beauty.
  5. The new heart rate monitor that is built in to the back of the device right beside the camera flash below the 16 megapixel camera.  This feature is meant for the health consensus persons in mind and these days that is actually everyone over the age of 25. The Galaxy S5 is a great exercise companion for monitoring your heart through your usually routines.

Final Thoughts

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a decent upgrade over last year’s Galaxy S4, but the common mistake persons make is comparing it to last year’s Samsung Note III which is monster in its phablet category. I have heard that once you have gone note, you can’t go back. Nevertheless, this comparison is unjust given the fact that they are two different categories of devices with two different consumers. Excellent camera, octa-core processor, finger print scanner, latest Android OS, IP67 certified, and better battery life is what makes this phone so high on everyone’s wanted list.

“Throughout its history, Samsung has made use of innovation, the most revolutionary technology and discipline to design the best products in the market.  In the same manner, we want to be a part of helping these children become young men and women capable of taking on challenges and succeed in sports, as well as their lives.” said Mr. Young Dae Sin, Managing Director, Samsung Latin America, Miami office. “By promoting the ethics and values of sports at a young age, Samsung seeks to contribute to the social inclusion and personal development of children through sports and education,” he also added. In all it was a great event and I’m looking forward to be in attendance next year. The Samsung Cup youth football tournament was initiated in Jamaica to advance sports, wellness and recreation among the country’s youth. Samsung recognizes that young people are the future and is greatly committed to programs that promote values such as teamwork, respect and leadership.

P.S Yes folks, I’m still giving away the Samsung Gear Fit and this is the week when I drop the million dollar question. So keep reading and look out for the prize question.
