Samsung made the Galaxy A70 official in March and the Galaxy A80 in April, but while the former has already gone on sale in some markets, including India, the A80 with the unique rotating pop-up camera is still nowhere to be found in stores. That may change very soon. The Korean company is apparently going to hold some exclusive preview events of the Galaxy A80 for interested customers in India next week. Samsung is launching the Galaxy M40 in India on June 11. To build up the hype it's already released some teasers, and an official has even outed some information about the handset. Thus, we found out it would be priced around INR 20,000 ($287 or €257 according to the current exchange rates), that its main rear camera would be a 32 MP snapper, and on the front the selfie shooter would have 16 MP resolution. Today more specs of the highest-end Samsung M-series smartphone have been leaked, and despite what past rumors claimed, it looks like it's not getting a 5,000 battery (like the M30),...

Motorola has officially confirmed that the Moto Z4 is the only Moto Z device that will be available this year. That means there won't be a Z4 Play, or a Z4 Force. The former is more surprising, because last year we did get a Moto Z3 Play alongside the Z3, but the latter was pretty much expected, since there was no Z3 Force in 2018 either. The last Force-branded Moto was the Z2 from 2017. Motorola is thus simplifying its lineup, which is probably a good thing overall, despite how it might make die-hard fans of the Force or Play editions feel. For now, it looks like Motorola is content to...

OnePlus 7 hands-on review

Posted by Payton Wilmott On 0 comments

After a staggered start, the OnePlus 7 is finally off the marks and available alongside its more expensive sibling, the OnePlus 7 Pro. The easiest way to think of the OnePlus 7 is to imagine the OnePlus 6T but supercharged with a few bits and pieces from the 7 Pro. The design is largely unchanged from the OnePlus 6T. From the front, the only noticeable difference is the speaker grille for the earpiece, which is almost three times as wide on the OnePlus 7 since it now houses a more powerful speaker for the stereo setup. The more noticeable difference is on the back. The camera module...

DC dimming is being enabled on the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro via a software update that is currently rolling out in China. This means that Huawei's flagships have joined the growing number of phones with OLED screens that ditched PWM for DC dimming. What's the difference? In short, PWM rapidly turns the pixels on and off to lower the brightness - hence the name "pulse width modulation". This leads to a flicker that some people are sensitive to and causes headaches for them. DC dimming reduces the current sent to each pixel, which reduces its brightness while keeping it on constantly (so,...

The slate will come in 8.4-inch and 10.7-inch versions both of 2560×1660 resolution. Another common component between the two versions is the Kirin 980 chipset. The smaller version is expected to come with a 4,500 mAh battery while the larger pad will come with a 7,500 mAh cell. Design wise, the new MediaPad features narrower bezels and there is no longer a physical power button like on the previous generations. There is a single selfie camera...

Amazon launches Echo Show 5 for $90

Posted by Payton Wilmott On 0 comments

Amazon has launched the Echo Show 5, a smaller version of the Echo Show at a much lower price. The Echo Shot 5 has a 5.5-inch, 960x480 resolution display. The widescreen aspect ratio is ideal for watching Amazon Prime Video content, as well as content from other service providers. On the back is a single 4W speaker. The Echo Show 5 also has a 1MP camera on the front for video calling other Amazon Echo users. The camera has a shutter that physically blocks the camera when it's not in use. Apart from that, it's exactly the same as any other Amazon Echo device. You can...

The Meizu 16Xs is supposed to launch tomorrow, but someone didn't get the memo and the company's website uploaded pretty much everything about the handset. We got all the specs and renders a day in advance. The Meizu 16Xs is carrying a 6.2-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2232px) AMOLED screen without a notch. There's also a fingerprint reader sitting beneath. A Snapdragon 675 is behind the wheel paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The triple-camera setup on the back consists of a 48MP (f/1.7) main unit, a 5MP depth-sensor and an 8MP f/2.2 snapper, which is probably...

Updates typically fix bugs, but sometimes things go wrong - the last update for the Galaxy S10 phones was pulled as it caused stability issues for many. It seems that now this update is getting re-released, hopefully with all the bugs patched up. Currently, the update is rolling out in Switzerland, that's where the original update started too. If no issues arise, it should expand to other regions shortly after. This is an important update as it enables Bright Night mode as well as using the telephoto lens in Live Focus mode. Samsung Galaxy S10e • Samsung Galaxy S10 • Samsung...

Sony may be working on a foldable phone of its own - the Xperia F. It is in the early stages of development as reports coming out of China claim that the phone is set to launch next year. The screen will have Sony's trademark 21:9 aspect ratio and will use a flexible OLED panel from Samsung. It's likely that this will be a vertical folding design as the Samsung and Huawei foldable phones (which fold horizontally) have squarish aspect ratios. According to the rumors, the Sony Xperia F will sport a 5G modem, which may be Sony's first. Unless the company unleashes a 5G-connected Xperia at...

Motorola Moto Z4 passes by Geekbench

Posted by Payton Wilmott On 0 comments

Yesterday we saw the surprise appearance of the Moto Z4 in a hands on video as someone bought a unit before it's even announced. Now we're getting official Geekbench scores which are on par with other Snapdragon 675 devices like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A70. The Moto Z4 tested had 4GB RAM and managed to push out 2346 points in the single-core test and 6248 in the multi-core department. Unsurprisingly it was running running on Android 9 Pie. The battery inside the Z4 comes in at 3,600mAh and will charge over USB-C. The Moto Z4 lineup will also include the Moto Z4...

Insiders report that Huawei will unveil a new chipset tomorrow, undeterred by the fallout from the US/China trade war. No, probably not the flagship Kirin 985, instead it's expected to be a replacement for the Kirin 710 from mid-2018. Tentatively dubbed Kirin 720, it will be fabbed by TSMC (which officially confirmed its support for Huawei) and it will use a smaller node - 10nm, down from 12nm. It could feature new processor and GPU cores, the 710 used A73 and G51, respectively. The 10nm process node may mean Cortex-A75 cores instead of the newer A76 (which target 7/8 nm), but...
