The True Next Gen Experience

A friend recently suggested to me that I should pick a day of the week and post game related blogs on that day instead of avoiding the whole gaming topic altogether. Well, it’s a new month and I have picked a day… and it’s Saturday!!! So from now on every Saturday will be about game related blogs. So let’s get to it!!!  It’s been five months now since I owned a Sony Playstation 4 (PS4) and I can count on one hand (three to be precise) the amount of games I have played on this next generation system. None of these games actual show off the strengths of the PS4 until now. Infamous: Second Son is what you truly need to feel the raw untamed power of the PS4 and open your eyes to next gen gaming. I’m honored to bring to you the review of the new poster child for the PS4, Infamous: Second Son.

Video Bonus

The strangest thing happened… After the release of this game Sony decided to release a video editing application for the PS4 called Sharefactory. It’s a really deep video editor that’s free for download on their store. To show you what it can do, I have made a video using only Sharefactory and game clips that were captured with PS4. So, no PC or external components were used only the PS4. Check out the video below.

Gameplay 8 out of 10

This game takes a lot of the old core elements of it predecessors and builds on them to make the gameplay mechanics more accessible for new players of the franchise and old returning veterans like me. You play as a rebellious youth that gains super powers after a bizarre situation with an escape convict. The fact that the main character you are using has super powers makes the game a bit easy to complete even on the highest difficulty, but don’t make the mistake of thinking your invincible. There will be many more types of super abilities you’ll gain in the game apart from the initial powers you get at the beginning of the story. You’ll be doing a lot of shooting, running, beating, jumping, spraying and joking if you plan on completing this game to the fullest. Every single button and special feature of the PS4 is used while playing this game; even the touchpad that is located in the middle of the controller is used heavily. At first, this might be a bit too much to take in, but after a couple hours you’ll be wondering why more PS4 games don’t implement these features as well.

Graphics 9 out of 10

Amazing would be an understatement to describe the visuals for this beautiful game. A lot of care and attention seemed to be spent putting this game together and it shows from the detailed face expression on the characters in the game to the beautifully rendered environments you explore throughout the game. It’s great to know that every inch of the game surrounding you see can be explored; no more invisible walls in your adventures.

Sound 10 out of 10

Let’s state the obvious first… All games on the PS4 have the ability to output DTS sound which wasn’t possible on the PS3. This little fact makes every game sound amazing on the PS4, but this game surpass my expectations by using the speaker that is located on the controller for specific in game audio. So, when the phone rings in-game you’ll only hear the ringing through the controller speaker only while the rest of the game audio plays through your stereo. This feature gives a certain depth to sound that is not possible on other game consoles.

Final Thoughts

Not a lot of games are present on next gen game consoles to make you go wow, but this has changed since the arrival of Infamous: Second Son to the PS4. If you need something to truly showcase the features of you PS4 then don’t hesitate to purchase this game. Also, if you’re a dedicated game then this game will be the first easy platinum you’ll earn on your newly owned PS4. This game deserves the overall score of 9 out of 10 for the impact it has made on next gen gaming.
