The Budget Friendly Huawei Y360

Posted by Payton Wilmott On Wednesday, August 19, 2015 0 comments

It seems like LIME has a couple of tricks up their sleeves this summer. The Huawei Y360 is a hidden gem for persons looking a decent Smartphone that won’t kill your bank account. Last year LIME had the Huawei Ascend Y330 on special and it was a good phone for the price at the time, but now there is a new king in town and we’ll see why that is so. This week we will take a look at the next upcoming rage in the family of budget phones that goes by the name of Huawei Y360. Let’s see what this phone has in store for us.
Huawei Y360 Specification

  • OS Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat
  • FM Radio
  • 5MP Rear Camera and 2MP Front Facing Camera
  • Dual LED Flash
  • Bluetooth V4.0
  • Micro SD Card Support
  • 4’’ Touch screen display
The box for Huawei Y360 seems to neglect essential information that most users and potential buyers want to see… deja vu?  Fortunately, I still know my way around the Android OS well enough to find it out for myself. So the rest of the specification is as follows.

  • Quad Core 1.2GHz Processor
  • 512MB Of RAM
  • 4GB of internal Storage
  • Mali – 400MP2 GPU

Build Quality and Design

The Huawei Y360 is built and looks a bit similar to the DL 750 from Digicel, but the similarities stop there. The phone has a removable battery and a memory card slot, but don’t go expecting a 4GB memory card included because this bad boy doesn’t come with a free memory card.  The construction is all plastic; like you expected better at that price point… really?? The Huawei Y360 isn’t an eye sore like most low-priced phones on the market, and it is small enough for person who despises huge phones.  Also, it might not seem like much but the navigation buttons are not backlit for ease of use in the dark. So, you will be fumbling in the dark to find the back and home buttons.

Camera Quality

The Huawei Y360 has a 5MP camera, but it seems to out shoot most 8MP in its budget phone category. Just goes to show that numbers doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to camera quality. That being said, the camera isn’t bad at all. It takes pretty decent day light photos and an average night shot. But I’ll let you be the judge of that with the sample photo I have provided.

Performance

This phone feels like it has a bullet for a processor! It considerable faster than the Huawei Ascend Y330 and you’ll certainly notice it the first time you get it in your hands. The only thing holding this phone back is the limited amount of RAM, which is sad. If this device had at least 1GB of RAM it would have been the king of budget phones for years to come. This phone has the processing power to handle any game you can fit on the internal storage without struggling.
Display

A decent display these days is a must for Smartphone that you’ll be using for all your media intake. Your Smartphone is always going to be the one stop place for movies, games and pictures. The Huawei Y360 does an OK job in the display department, but there is certainly room for improvement when it comes to screen brightness.
Outstanding Features

We all know by now that the DL750 from Digicel had a TV function that makes you watch local TV stations. Well the Huawei Y360 has the best specification you can buy for a budget Smartphone excluding the TV functionality. It still has radio, which is still a big plus in my books, but no TV. I know a couple persons might take a step back because of the lack TV functionality, but I’ll urge you to take a look at all the other positive this small dynamite of a phone has before you make any rash choices. Make sure to take into account that the Huawei Y360 is the only quad-core processor phone you will find for less than $10,000 dollars right now.
Finally Thoughts
The Huawei line of phones has grown considerable since their conception in our market, and our market strongly needs more budget Smartphones. The Huawei Y360 is the new value Smartphone from LIME that truly has value. The product mentioned in this article was provided courtesy of LIME. The Love/Hate of Samsung’s New Flagship Phones

So the best kept secret is out... no pun intended. But seriously the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 Edge + is official now. So what are the pro and cons of Samsung' s new flagship phones?  Well let's start with the king that everyone has been waiting for... The Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Fist let's look at the spec sheet so we can clear the air.
  • Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen, 16M colors
  • Screen Size: 5.7 inches (~75.9% screen-to-body ratio)@ 1440 x 2560 pixels (~518 ppi pixel density)
  • OS: Android OS, v5.1.1 (Lollipop)
  • Chipset Exynos 7420
  • CPU: Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57
  • GPU: Mali-T760MP8
  • Internal Storage 32/64/128 GB, 4 GB RAM
  • Camera: Primary - 16 MP, 5312 x 2988 pixels, optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash
  • Camera: Secondary - 5 MP
  • Camera Features - Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR
  • Video Options: 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, optical stabilization, dual-video rec.
  • WLAN: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot
  • Bluetooth:v4.2, A2DP, EDR, LE
  • microUSB v2.0, USB Host
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate, SpO2
  • Wireless charging (Qi/PMA) - market dependent
  • Battery: Non-removable Li-Po 3000 mAh battery
So you must be wondering why did I forget to put the SD card slot and infrared port on the specification sheet but the truth is… it’s not present in the device. Also the battery is smaller than the Galaxy Note 4 but it is said that it last just as long. This I’ll have to test once I have gotten my hands on a device for a full review. Next, I should mention is the added features that are not relevant to the spec sheet but pretty darn good to leave out of this blog.

Noteworthy Features

Built-in YouTube Live Streaming

Have you ever wanted to cover a live event but you also wanted to have a live stream of it on your YouTube Channel so viewers could feel more engaged and current with what you covering? I sure would have loved that when I was at CES January. Well, now that YouTube Live Stream feature is built right into the camera app of the Note 5 and S6 Edge +. This is an uploader’s dream…

The New Action Memo.

On the note 4 action memo was reached through the pop up window that would appear when you took the S Pen out the phone, that was only possible when the phone was awake and in your hands.  Now, with the new action memo you are able to do that from the lock screen when the phone is in stand by mode. This is what I call saving time while looking cool. The screen remains off and only lights up the parts you are writing or drawing on.

Scroll Capture

Now the Note 5 gives you the ability to take a screen shot of an entire Web page or document. So no more multiple screen shots troubles to save one Web page.

PDF Writing

Now the Note 5 offers to user the ability to write on PDF which is pretty handy for executives who handle documents on the regular and email them after with signature.

Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay is Samsung’s simple, safe and virtually anywhere mobile payment service, will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the U.S. on September 28. Protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint verification and digital tokenization, Samsung Pay works with both MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) and NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies, bringing consumers closer than ever to a world without wallets. The feature of this in Jamaica still hasn’t gotten a solid date yet, but maybe it will be before the end of the year.

Final Thoughts
Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten to speak about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. The S6 Edge + has a dual curve display and the same features and specification as the Note 5, expect for the S Pen functionality. Truth be told a lot persons are iffy about Samsung’s new flagships this year, but until I get my hands on one for a full review I can only comment on the design and initial experience, and with that said… I want one. I want one badly… It feels amazing in the hands and the new video collage feature it has is a great built in function for a camera. I like the new note, but the S6 edge + is just not my style; I am more of a productivity type of a person. Although, the S6 Edge + would be great for persons who consume a lot of media, and with the dual curve edges media on this device seem to have a 3D type of effect. So, until an official hand on review… My verdict is ago for now.

Which Tooth Is For You?

Posted by Payton Wilmott On Monday, August 3, 2015 0 comments

Sigh…. The pressure of thinking of the up and coming Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is proving to be too much for me to bear. The anticipation is causing me to cry at nights. In the process of rehab and the fact that the doctor recommend/order me to do something else than obsess about that beautiful phone. I will be continuing to clear my desk of review items. With that being said I’ll be clearing three off the pile this week, and they are three different Bluetooth headset/headphones. So this week we have three different devices for three different situations; which tooth is for you?
Situation 1
You working on your summer body in the gym or you love abusing your muscles in the name of sex appeal. Music is the greatest drug to get you pumped and energized to finish your workout, but the standard stereo Bluetooth headphones are too large and clunky to stay on the head during a workout or for jogging.

Solution

The Motorola Buds Wireless Headphones is the perfect solution if you. These are wireless Bluetooth stereo hear buds that fit very comfortably around your neck and light weight too. After a week around my neck there is no denying how comfortable it is in any given situation. The sound quality is ok; the only thing that held it back is not enough bass, but if you are ok with moderate bass then you would have no problem with this headphone. The score for this beauty is as follows:

Design: 8 out of 10
Comfort: 9 out of 10
Sound Quality: 7 out of 10
Battery Life: 8 out of 10
Situation 2
You hate ear buds/plugs and you don’t plan to stress yourself in a gym or jogging. You are just looking for a Bluetooth headphone that isn’t ugly and isn’t too big with ear muffs that you can drink a cup soup out of.

Solution
The Motorola S305 Wireless Stereo Headphones is the solution you are looking for if you like simplicity. This Motorola headset has a better sound quality than the buds, but during long usage you may get some discomfort behind the ears where the headband will rest. The S305 scores are…

Design: 7 out of 10
Comfort: 7 out of 10
Sound Quality: 8 out of 10
Battery Life: 8 out of 10
Situation 3
The last situation you may find yourself in is that you don’t want a stereo headphone. All that matters to you is answering your phone and that is it. Music is not your cup of tea and you only listen to it through your radio or surround system at home.

Solution
The Samsung HM1300 Bluetooth Headset is what you want to get you through the day of hectic calls. This Samsung headset comes in a myriad of colors to suit your personal style as well. One key feature this headset has that I haven’t seen before is multipoint technology which allows the device to connect/pair with two devices at once. This is very helpful for all the persons out there with more than one cell phone. One headset to rule them all with a score of…

Design: 8 out of 10
Comfort: 8 out of 10
Sound Quality: 8 out of 10
Battery Life: 8 out of 10

Final Thoughts
These Bluetooth headphones/headsets have their strong points and weak points, but for me I’ll choose the one with the strong point that suits me best, and that’s the best advice I can give potential buyers out there.
