Star Wars Rebels resumed its fourth and final season on Monday, bringing the series closer to its big climax. And it did so in truly dramatic fashion, delivering a major blow to the Ghost crew in their ongoing fight against the Empire.

The episode "Jedi Night" culminated with the death of one of the series' main characters, Kanan Jarrus. A survivor of the Jedi Purge, Kanan distinguished himself over the course of the series by serving the fledgling Rebel Alliance and schooling young Ezra Bridger in the ways of the Force. Kanan reluctantly became a teacher even as he himself came to terms with the Jedi heritage he kept repressed. Kanan's story ended with one last, heroic sacrifice, as he held back an explosion that would have killed the entire Ghost crew.
