Smart watches are coming out the wood works so fast that it
would make Bolt head spin. Samsung, Sony, LG, and even Motorola are in the race
to make the smart watch to rule them all. I must say that competition is a good
thing because companies will fight to satisfy the consumer with design
and price. So far Samsung is the market leader to beat in the smart watch market,
but there is another runner in the race called KAIROS.
This company has a
concept for a smart watch that I have never seen before, and it looks like a
winner! Just take a look at the promo video below.
It looks so stylish and manly! I was in love until I saw the
price tag which is around 600 US dollars and the release date of December 2014.
I guess I can still dream… Here is the web address https://www.kairoswatches.com/ if you want to check it out for yourself. I’ll
try to see if my charm could get me a review unit till then. Keep reading for
more updates about these and other upcoming products.
Here we are with part two of Life without a Smartphone as
promised. It’s been 27 days 12 hours 36 minutes, 3 seconds, 4 seconds, and 5
seconds (Darn it time! Keep still!!!) since the death of my Samsung Galaxy S4
and the adduction of my iPhone 4s. Yes I said abduction; you know yourself abductor,
saying you borrowing it for two week and now it is one month later. In the
words of a great man I know as Assassin or Agent Sasco “don’t mek mi hold yu!”
Apart from plots to get back at my best friend I have found
that certain parts of my life are non-existent now that my mobile connectivity
has disappeared. I am an average user of smart devices whether it is phones or
watches. I’m certain that anyone else that is remotely interested in tech like
me would miss these aspects I’m going to mention below. What are the most
hurtful parts of being without a Smartphone?
No Whatsapp! I never realize till now that… nobody calls or
texts anymore. It’s like whatsapp is the only major means of communicating between
phones these days… kmt
No quick camera moments. Smartphone’s these days are equip
with cameras that rival some stand alone snappers on the market. Without a Smartphone
I can’t seem to get any good photos at events or of items I’m reviewing.
Emails on the go… Without a on the go internet I have been
less integrated with my work, because I’m unaware of any work mail until I sit
behind my desk and open up my Gmail. This action is done rarely due to the fact
that I’m always on the road.
Blogging… Most of my blogs are done from behind the screen
of a Smartphone while riding on a bus. Now, I’m trying to adjust to sitting
behind a desk which is hard for a man always on the go.
It’s a sad predicament indeed, but I’ll try to make the best
of a bad situation. Speaking of which… I’m currently thinking of away to start
giveaways on this blog page. I always seem to be reviewing stuff that my loyal
readers would like, so this is me giving back to you folks that got me here.
More info will be arriving soon so keep reading and comment more often folks.
Whether it be the class rooms or board rooms we all know
that once a projector is involved the level of interaction is turned down to a
minimum. Thus the rising in using smart boards over projectors in recent days,
but there is a cheaper solution being offered right here in Jamaica called eBeam.
What is eBeam?
It’s a handwriting capture system that adds an interactive
layer to whatever being projected on a wall or whiteboard. I use the word
projected because this device relies heavily on the use of a projector. The
device lets you and your associates add footnotes to a projected image or
document, or to sketch something on a whiteboard, and e-mail them like memos.
How Does It Works
The eBeam is simpler and less expensive than a smart board
and uses things you already have around like projectors and PC’s or laptops.
The device consists of a fat marker-like stylus and a hardware sensor that
connects to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. This sensor attaches next to whatever
flat surface you want to use to make your presentation. To calibrate it, you will
have to tap the stylus on the nine points projected on the wall. The setup
process takes less than five minutes more or less. Once everything’s running,
you can draw images or write text with an astounding level of precision. The
eBeam’s stylus which has an AAA battery inside is tracked by the flat sensor
you’ve attached to the wall.
Who is it for?
The eBeam is very versatile and can be used for many things,
but its best fitted for education. This device comes with a stockpile of
educational template and features to aid in the teaching from kindergarten
children up to university students. Persons can also make presentation and
record them or broadcast them via the web for online tutelage. So if you are
teacher/instructor this will certainly help you in teaching those tough to
understand topics.
Final Thoughts
The
eBeam is the only cheaper solution for a smart board and given the fact that
price matters in our current economical environment, persons should consider
taking a closer looking on this device. The eBeam is sold as a bundle that
comes paired with a projector of your choosing, which range from US$ 1,900 to
$US 9,600 with Lumens range from 2,800 to 6,000. The products mentioned in this

Last week I had a Samsung Gear Fit sitting on my desk
whispering “review me, review me.” Filled with anticipation I forgot that we
were going to do an unboxing video and violated the packaging… oops. Anyhow,
this week we bring to you the review of Samsung Gear Fit.
The Gear Fit is a quite attractive and elegantly designed
wrist band smart watch. The great thing about it is that the device isn’t too
flashy to draw attention from persons in your surroundings. The only shinny
surface on the device is the curved touch display which is gorgeous by the way.
I have been wearing it for a while now and not once has someone recognized it
or approached me to enquire about what I’m wearing.
What can it do?
This device falls in the category of being a smart watch,
and smart watches do more than just tell the time. The Gear Fit comes packed
with lots of feature to help the average user, but let me get more specific
with a list.
Gear Fit Functions
- Device has a stop watch, timer, and can display the current time and date. Yes, they didn’t forget the essentials.
- Media Controller app to actively control your music on your Samsung phone.
- Heart Rate monitor.
- It has a Pedometer that measure the number of steps you make and gives you the distances traveled and the Calories burnt by doing so.
- Device displays current unread notifications and also gives the option to reply with quick messages that you have predetermined already.
- Lastly, the gear fit has a handy Find My Phone function that rings your phone until you have located it.
Set Up
Ok, if you are interested so far then they are some things
you should know before you go out and purchase one. This device currently only
can function with Samsung devices running Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and above.
The next perquisite is that the Gear Fit Manager that has to be downloaded and
installed on the device you are going to pair the Gear Fit with before you can
use any of its features. The application should be available in the Samsung App
Store… Keyword here is “should.” Since I last checked (9/4/2014) the Gear Fit Manager
app was still nowhere to be found in neither the Samsung App store nor the
Google Play store. We had to source the Gear Fit Manager app from XDA
Developers webpage which made the setup process a bit tedious.
Final Thoughts
The Samsung Gear Fit is a well designed Smart Watch that
will become integrated into your life so well that you’ll wonder how lived without
it. If the Gear Fit is this good, it makes you wonder just how great the Gear 2
might be with all its features.
It has been a rough month and it seems to be getting harder
as the days go by… You may be wondering what the hell I’m talking about and why
I started off this blog so gloomy. Well, I most recently parted ways with two
of the most influential persons in my life. The first person I gave up for
adaption was my close friend the iPhone 4S with its silky smooth sturdy built
body. This was a planed adoption and I tried being strong about it because there is
still hope that she will return to me one day. The final one was my wife (the
Samsung Galaxy S4) that fell ill recently without warning. I was soon to find
out that the illness was life threatening and I had to bury her last week. Now
I’m living life like a crack head with withdrawal syndrome, thus giving life to
my first blog in month.
Life without a Smartphone
Living without a Smartphone in Jamaica is the worst thing
that can happen to a Tech writer… Sadly I’m a tech writer. So, just imagine the
hell I’m going through at the moment… Given the fact that Smartphones are so
expensive here you only have two options if you find yourself in a predicament
like I am.
Option 1
The king of all cheapness, the name that started cell phones
in Jamaica the Nokia *^^%$##$& something another, not quite sure of the
name, but it is also called the Flashlight Phone. Once you say flash light
phone everybody knows what you talking about.
- Tiny screen that was made for persons with 20/20 vision to use…
- A powerful multipurpose high intensity God like beam that shoots out from the top of the phone to provide light… Let There Be Artificial Light!!!
- Battery Life that can last you until the end of days! My uncle lost his Nokia charge last Christmas… his battery level is now at 99.9%.
- A built in radio!!! I wish more Smartphone would keep this function in instead of taking it out. Smh…
- And finally a talking clock… This is when you know you have hit rock bottom.
Option 2
The dreaded Blackberry… The one set of phones I avoid like a
plague; once the king of the hype scene now currently in the bargain bin at
your local barber shop going for whatever you can find in your pocket.
Special Features:
- Effective against wounding thieves and menacing stray dogs.
- Still consider a chick magnet by most retards.
This is what you call being stuck between a rock and a hard
place… Sigh. I just got to end this blog in suspense because I still haven’t chosen
as yet. So I will leave it at… to be continued. The scenically views continues next week.
