Vikings Creator, Martin Scorsese Making Ancient Rome TV Series

Vikings creator Michael Hirst and Goodfellas director Martin Scorsese are developing an ancient Rome TV series.

In an interview with The Guardian, Hirst revealed he is teaming up with Scorsese on a series about the rise of the Roman empire and a young Julius Caesar titled The Caesars. Hirst and Scorsese envision the show as a TV drama lasting several seasons. The show will focus heavily on Julius Caesar's experiences as a young man and ruler, which Hirst believes hasn't really been explored yet on television or film.

“In the movies he’s usually a middle-aged guy, struggling with political complexities," Hirst said, speaking about Julius Caesar. "But he was fantastically interesting and ambitious when he was younger. A lot of the Caesars came to power when they were young, and we’ve never really seen that on screen."
