2018 Oscars Were Least-Watched in Ceremony History

26.5 million people tuned in for the 90th annual Academy Awards, marking an all-time low for the Oscars.

The nearly four hour ceremony saw a 19 percent drop in viewership compared to last year, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and brought in five million less viewers than 2008's previous low mark of 31.8 million. The Oscars garnered over 40 million viewers as recently as 2014, when Ellen DeGeneres hosted the show.

Declining viewership is not exclusive to the Oscars, however. Other major network TV events in 2018, including the Super Bowl, Olympics, and Grammys, also saw decreased viewership compared to 2017.
