EVE Online Players Pay Amazing Tribute to Stephen Hawking

Earlier this week, the family of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking confirmed that he had passed away at his Cambridge home, aged 76. EVE Online players are paying tribute by lighting beacons across the game's interstellar expanse.

Reddit user kairiola suggested that New Eden's pilots light up cynosural beacons as a form of memorial.

The beacons are used to open jump bridges for warp speed travel, emitting a brilliant light. The sight of one would usually have nearby players' hackles up, possibly denoting the imminent arrival of someone looking for a spot of ship-to-ship combat. But in this instance, they served as an awe-inspiring tribute to the loss of one of the world's greatest minds.
