Look What’s Portable Now!

These days everything is being made portable to help ease the hardship of everyday life. If you can imagine it then it has been made portable, like portable projectors, portable scanners, portable printers and so on. The next product that has made itself to the portable category is monitors. This week I was shock to see that AOC has made a portable monitor that I had to get my hands on for review. So be amazed while I bring to you the AOC 16” inch portable USB monitor.

Design

The AOC USB monitor comes in a glossy black shell that is gorgeous and also a fingerprint magnet if I may add. On the back of the device there is a kick stand that is used to keep the monitor up right during its use. Behind that kick stand is the carefully hidden USB port that will be used to operate the display. The best part is there isn’t any power cord or adaptor because the monitor gets both its data connection and its power directly from the single USB port. Also this monitor packs a 16” inch LED back-lit  display which weighs only 2.5 pounds.

Installation

First step of installation is finding the drivers for the monitor which is included on the installation disk or can be downloaded from the AOC's website. Once the driver has been installed the monitor's screen will activate instantly whenever it's connected via USB. There's no third-party control panel to manage the portable monitor display's settings. If you find yourself wanting to adjust the brightness or change the array of the screens, you’ll have to launch your laptop/desktop existing display controls.

Performance
The monitor’s performance is dependent on the graphic card and processing power of the computer you’ll be using it on. It will certainly work great on any PC once you are using it to display static images like web pages, documents or pictures. But for demanding processes like watching HD (High Definition) videos and video games, the monitor will struggle to display them properly without a high-end video card and processor.

Final Thoughts
A second display provides you with more option when it comes to work or play. You can isolate certain programs on each monitor and end up watching a movie on one while surfing the web on the other. Also, the fact that this monitor is lightweight and has no power cord makes it  highly suitable for traveling. Instead of babbling, let me just state the facts in the simple way of pros and cons.

Pros
             No power bricks or cords
             Lightweight
             Clear and colorful display

Cons
             No protective case included
             Not plug and play

Yup, the good old pros and cons always simplify a complicated review. Anyhow, the AOC 16 inch USB monitor retails for about 12,000 dollars at any local computer store.
