TDK... Life on record

I remember growing up and looking at my parents wondering how old could they be? They must be stuck in the prehistoric times thinking vinyl records are still cool. How quickly the tables have turned with me being the ancient one and cassettes and cassette decks becoming items for a museum. Anyway, long... long time ago cassettes were the in thing, and the biggest name in cassettes at the time was TDK. Then cassettes died then most of the world forgot about the company till now. This week I found out TDK is alive and kicking with new products on the market for consumers. Fortunately I was able to acquire one of their new products and it will be our feature this week.

TDK Boombox (2 Speaker)

Haven't heard the words Boombox since... since... I was a child. Anyway TDK has revamped the idea and brought it to the twenty first century. This Boombox comes in two models which are the 2 speaker system and the 3 speaker system. This week review is based on the (2) two speaker model of the Boombox so without further ado let's begin.

Design

First, let's talk about design and how the device looks from a consumer stand point. The Boombox is made from glossy black and matte plastic, with carbon and golden brown highlights that are rather stylish and gives it a nice finish. Although, from a consumer point of view... and I quote "It looks like a old radio/cassette player minus the cassette deck.  I couldn't argue with that point of view, but the lack of a grill to protect the speakers was a common concern of me and some of my co-workers in terms of durability of the device.

Ports and Accessories

TDK has equipped this Boombox with plenty of connections to satisfy the needy. There's a USB Host port (Apple cable supplied) that's compatible with most MP3 players and external hard drives, a couple of auxiliary inputs (1 x mini-jack, 2 x RCA) and an INST port. You can even run the Boombox on batteries (10 x D type batteries) for hours on end. Although,  Boombox plus ten (10) 'D' batteries equals a lot of weight lifting and back pains which I wouldn't  advise any man or woman to do.

Performance

This Boombox was well  designed in a very intellectual way. The device has a very powerful and crisp sound quality with adequate bass. It would be easy to drive your neighbors up the wall with a Boombox like this with the right EQ (equalizer) setting. The two wideband coaxial speakers are certainly working overtime to produce what some may call great sound. I'm so impressed with the (2) two speaker system Boombox that my mind can't fathom what the TDK 3-Speaker Boombox or Soundcube can do if put to the test.

Final Thoughts

The TDK Boombox (2 speaker)is a darn good audio system that gives good quality sound and has a wide range of ports that gives you the ability to connect any device to it with ease. The only downside is that it's on the bulky, heavier side of the portability scale.  The TDK Boombox (2 speaker) retails for about $48,000 dollars at most stores.
