Thanos sees his mission in Avengers: Infinity War as saving half the universe, and he'll need the power of all six Infinity Stones to do so.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed why Thanos is pursuing the six powerful gems. According to Feige, Thanos is influenced by what happened to his home planet and not letting that happen ever again.
“He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that,” Feige said. “What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again."
