Joker Movie Might Lift This Element From Killing Joke

Warner Bros.' Joker origin movie might portray the DC supervillain as a failed comedian, a similar depiction of the character's origin from the classic graphic novel The Killing Joke.

The movie will reportedly be an origin movie set in the 1980s against the backdrop of a gritty Gotham City underworld. As TheWrap points out, the portrayal of the Joker as a failed '80s comedian would explain why Martin Scorsese became involved with the project as an executive producer.

Scorsese directed the 1980s cult classic The King of Comedy starring Robert De Niro as a struggling comedian who kidnaps the late night talk show host whose show he desperately wants to be on. "The Joker origin story will include nods to that film," according to TheWrap's sources.
